A store in San Miguel was a collaboration with Mexican fashion designer Alex Medina.
The space was designed in an attempt to create a flexible space that would focus on the products in exhibition, so we went for black on black.
Using the modularity of the concrete pavers, we created a flexible space that can continuously change depending on what is being exhibited.
More than just a store, we see ourselves as a dynamic, ever-changing gallery of design objects you can use on yourself and in your home / office.
Crioll Studio
For our first home and living collection here in México, COLLECTION 2020, we gathered some of our favorite Mexican contemporary design brands, and added them to the brands we brought with us from Europe, most of them Danish, and created our first international curation of Scandinavian + Mexican contemporary design.
Among the Danish brands you can find are: Menu, Normann Cph, Ferm Living, Muuto, ByLassen… mixed with our favourite pieces from Mexican designers: Casaquieta, Encrudo, Onora, Casa Mineral, among a few others….
Alex Medina
Alex Medina is our Partner in A store. He is today one of Mexico’s most respected fashion designers, as well as an important member of Fashion group Mexico and we are very proud to be working with him. He creates beautiful original items from natural materials, supporting local hand-craftsmanship and fare trade while he explores new possible geometries that praise the human form. He is also in charge of the fashion curation where he includes jewellery from top designers like Christina Ramella, Vanessa Drummond, Muan, and Caralarga.
This is part of his linen & stripes collection
High end accessories fashion designers.
Born in Brasil, with an important trajectory as a designer in both Italy and Mexico, Vanessa Drummond studied in the European Institute of Milan and has been laureate of several international awards. She lives and works in Mexico City since 2001 and has created pieces for names like BVLGARI, DAMIANI, VERA WANG, ARMANI, to name a few.
The light in the soft color of her pieces, their reflections and the different contrasts, create a feeling of esthetic purity, equilibrium and lightness
Is a globetrotter designer and map obsessed adventurer, born in Italy that holds a colorful passport having lived all over the world. She studied fine jewelry in New York where she started the brand and eventually set down roots in Mexico.
She created a travel inspired jewelry brand, behind her own story and inspiration aiming to collect her memories. With every new adventure she finds new inspiration and communicates it through her jewelry. Each meticulously crafted piece is a reflection of her dreams, extreme attention to detail, creativity and personal experiences.
Encrudo
Encrudo created a collection of timeless objects that are versatile for your space. they are inspired by the local materials and Mexican traditions. Every piece being hand made with the traditional techniques.
A store is normally set up as a store or better yet, design gallery, with a collection that will be changing through the different seasons of the year, curation done by us + Alex . But it is also a space that is pretended for temporary exhibitions and pop ups, like the one we did for Gucci at the end of 2019.
This year we are hoping for more pop up shops and interesting events and exhibitions in the heart of San Miguel let’s just hope we are out there soon.
Praise, Death and Design
Ok, so here is the complete view of the installation.
When we decided to join forces with Designer Alex Medina, he already had a space and had painted it all black (which we obviously loved)
From there we created a flexible concept out of concrete pavers that would give us the liberty to be moving things around without any major problems.
Here you are able to see the installation we created for the Day of the Dead, which we called “Praise Death & Design” a reference to the daily design we sometimes overlook.
For its launch, A store will be a combination of Mexican contemporary design with modern Scandinavian design we brought back with us from Europe.
Removing everything non-essential, we want every object to have the attention it deserves.
The black obscure setting makes a beautiful contrast and becomes a great backdrop for whatever we focus our lens on.
The exhibition will be on until dec 1st, we hope you are able to visit!
as of the opening of the store goes, Dec 2019 it will be ready and we are super psyched to be able to have you step inside!
See you soon!.
